Hi ladies, I'm Anne and I'm hoping that you can help me be more supportive.
My boyfriend is in the army and is about to be posted to a volatile area overseas. This relationship is fairly new and intense, however my fear is threatening to jeopardise it. I have NO experience of army life whatsoever. Plus I can't seem to stop myself letting him know that I am terrified.
I know I need to curb this but as he is the only military person I know, he inevitably gets my thoughts shoved at him. He is an officer and his job is dangerous and while he tells me he will be ok, nobody can guarantee that.
Anyway I'm hoping some of you can give me sage advice so I don't burden him with my fears. Can anybody help please? :(

Hi Anne and welcome to wags. well you have come to the right place for support. all the girls on here are amazing. firstly hun, dont be terrified, i know easier said then done, but they get trained to do their jobs and know what they're doing when they go to these places. my man has been in the army for nearly 9 years and has done numerous tours but we have our first proper tour together coming up at the end of this year. i try not to think about where he's going and what he's doing. so far i'm fine about the upcoming tour but i know its difficult. sometimes it helps to just come on here and chat to the girls. hope ur ok. xxx

Hi Anne, im Helen, my oh is in iraq as we speak. I had al the same thoughts you do. But emma is right, they been trained for it and i just keep telling myself he is on an ex somewhere.

We have been together nearly 2 years, he has been in for 10. Its not easy when they are away, but my saviour has been on here. These girls are great.

Hope to speak to you soon xx:rolleyes:

I can definitely tell you you are not alone, at least!

My boyfriend is also comparatively new (a year, but compared to some that's not much), he's also an officer, also about to go on tour to a volatile area and I also have no experience of army life!

I may not be able to offer much helpful advice, but I will join you in taking deep breaths, reminding ourselves of their years of training, and skipping over anything in the newspapers about iraq or afghanistan!

When o/h is away I use to try avoiding news etc but now I just can't help myself in Reading them as I always think if owt happens family find out before its gone to press.

you have come to the rite place for advice and support as most of us have the same aprehensions as you do so dont worry. my oh in afghanistan for 3 months. you have to try not to worry and think they are somewhere else. you will be fine and come on here each day and you forget where they are as you have a laugh and chat to all the girls
