hello everyone,
i'm just joined and i'm very new to all this, my boyfriend is going to join he army in january to do his officer training, and to be honest i'm so scared. i have so many questions so if anyone could be answer some i'd be so grateful. I bascally want to know if i will be able to see him at all during the first training stages, like at weekends, cos hes going to sandhurst , so i was thinking of getting a flat nearby that we could live in, but i'm hearing he has to live in barracks??
thanks em x x

hey hun welcome to wags! they have so much training to do in basic training that they don't get any time off, apart from halfway through to get some time off. but i don't know too much about sandhurst though. wat will he be training for? x

hiya hun welcome to wags! all the ladies on here are lovely, i only joined recently and they have all been awesome :)
my oh is almost finished his officer training at sandhurst and it has been a hard year but it is not impossible.
basically your boyfriend gets 3 leave weekends a term, he will be allowed to leave sandhurst at about midday on the friday (although this can very depending on what they are doing and if they are in trouble for any reason) and he will have to be back by 6am monday morning.
they work 6 days a week and have sundays off throughout the whole year
for the first 5 weeks he will be getting up a 5am and will not be finishing work til about 10pm and he is not allowed his phone during the day, they will take it off him and return it at the end of the day. he will not be allowed off site at all during these 5 weeks as this is their basic training. after these 5 weeks he gets his first leave weekend, i went and met my oh in london this weekend and would definately recommend it!
after these first 5 weeks they can get up at 6am and if they are married or have kids they are allowed to leave sandhurst on wednesday afternoons and on sundays to see their families, but im afradi if they do not then they have to stay on site.
at some stage (i cant remember when it is, it is possibly from inters onwards) they are allowed to leave sandhurst whenever they are not working, and a lot of the guys who live close enough by will take off to see gfs and family but they have to be back on site at 6am every morning.
basically, i lived this whole year in scotland whilst connor was at sandhurst and we have only seen each other on his delegated time off, it has been hard but a lot of his mates have been in the same position. i wouldnt recommend getting a flat down there until he has at least down most of his first term as you wont be allowed to see much of him.
however you do get invited to their company do in his inters, its a really good night out and they usually book a place in london.
hope that some of this helps! lemme know if you have any more qns xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello Emz...
Welcome to wags xxx
Hi hun! welcome to wags!
My OH comissioned from Sandhurst April. They have to live at base. The first 5 weeks is intense training and didnt see my OH that first 5weeks as they are up at the crack of dawn have lots of physical training and lectures, boot polishing etc lights out at certain times etc. but my Oh rang me everynight when he got his phone back.
Rak-attack has explained the amount of leave they get so wont repeat lol
obv with anything in the Army they are disorganised and can make them randomly train at a weekend at the drop of a hat. so be prepared i remember one time I had a great weekend for me and my OH all planned then one person didnt pass the room check so the whole platoon was punished and had to stay over the weekend and do a 3000wrd essay.
but the time flys by and they have fab black tie balls where you get to dress up formally which is fun :D

Hiya Hun
I'm Lucy, 24 ... my man is out in Afghan at the moment and has been since March., but he is home in 26 days!! YEEHAAA.
I think it is always nerve wracking to start with being a army wag but eventually you adapt to it and you will manage just fine. You will have all of us for support too!!
