Hi every one

I'm new to this site but have dealt with my O/H being on tour a lot in the past. i'm usually quite strong, have my good and bad days like everyone else but tend to push it to the back of my mind and pretend its not happening! only now i'm faced with what i feel is the worst week so far! not only is my O/H away and i have a 2 year old running riot but i have to face one of my biggest fears. i have to drive!... i had a bad crash last december and ain't driven since. now my dad has got me a car (which i'm really grateful for) and sorted the insurance but i'm missing one massive thing... confidence! dont even know if i'll be able to remember how to drive. if anyone has been through anything similar please help just looking at the car terrifies me!

I know this seems like quite a small problem comapred to how some of you are feeling and what you have to deal with but the pressure is turning me into a nightmare i just keep biting everyones heads off!

Would really appreciate anyones experience or hints and tips

Thanks girls

I don't know if you will find this helpful, but the best way to get over your fear is to face it. Get used to being in the car before you even start it. Or being around it if it's that scary. Take driving lessons again after you are comfortable sitting in the car.

No problem is too big or small to share here.

And those young ones seem to know when it's the worst possible time to act up. Big hugs!

Hi I have the same problem. Was in a serious accident over 2 years ago and broken my pelvis badly. I started having driving lessons last year but found it too much.

I've decided to go for some more counselling not to drag the accident up but to deal with the reactions to the car etc. It's quite a normally reaction.

Over the last year lots of my friends who didn't understand have been pushing me really hard to drive but I've just realised literally the last month that its ok and its in my time to deal with this.

Thats all the advice I can offer - don't be harsh on yourself, give yourself time to heal and recover and get some counselling

Hope that helps, lots of love XX

Thought i best tell you the good news! I DID IT! i only made 2 very short journeys but i actually drove.

Knowing you lot were here to support me if it went wrong was great. A good start. i'm just setting myself small goals and sticking to roads i know. thanks to those of you who posted messages of encouragement!

this isnt completely the same but im currently learning to drive. i've been learning since december and had almost 60 hours! thats almost three times the average it takes a person to drive. i feel like everyone doesnt understand why i cant drive yet. i have my own car too and have loadssssss of private practice and i still havent even taken my theory. it's getting a joke amongst my friends!

Hi,

I excatly howo you feel...I have just had a crash-although it wasnt a big one it left me very shook up so I can only part guess what you must be feeling like!

Although this may be a little costly you could find a drving instructor who would be willing to take you out in your car for a couple of hours to help build up your confindance, if you use your car-that may be cheaper. Alternatively could you ask your dad to take you around for a bit. Best thing is though sweetie is to get back on the horse so to speak.

Let me know how it goes xxxx

Congratulations for going out in your car - I had a crash a couple of years ago - thankfully no one was hurt but wrote the car off and was a gibbering wreck so truly understand your nerves for getting back behind the wheel - well done and the independance you will gain will be so worth it.

girls thanks so much

all your support is actually making me WANT to drive instead of NEEDING to drive. i never thought that so many people would be able to relate to how i feel and care enough to post messages for me.

Beckylou dont worry about the driving one day it will just happen it took me 18 months to be ready for my test then it was on the 5th time that i actually passed (my nerves were all over the place i couldn't keep it together under test conditions, in not abad driver honest!). i took my theory twice so dont worry my friends made jokes too especially the ones who passed first time but they had crashes a long time before i did and mine wasn't my fault so it just goes to show whatmy driving instructor always said could be right after all "the more tuition you have and the more tests you take the safer you become as a driver because your more aware"
