Hello! Another semi new WAG here. I sent my first package to my OH in Afghan yesterday, it was full of completely random stuff! I was just wondering what you sent that your OH really loved? Or things that you sent that weren't very useful at all? Thanks!! xx

Hmm, things that weren't useful...

Haribo's (they melted together), yogurt covered fruit (same again), other than no problems.

My oh preferred to get savoury things (pepperami, sauce, cup-a soups, etc) and things like cereal bars, as opposed to a constant supply of sweets and biscuits (I suggest just sending a varied variety of things)

Things he loved: Travel games (Poundland is good!), water pistols, (hours of fun!), ice lollies (the ones that you freeze yourself- if he has a freezer), a bucket and spade, c0cktail umbrellas, a plastic glass & swirly straw (my joke that he was on holiday for 6 months :) )

Newspapers, womens mags, autotraders, etc.

All have been well received :D

Welcome to wags hun. My OH is in Afghan too at the moment. Ive been sending him all kinds of things. Sweets, food, mouthwash, travel games, even face creams as are prone to alot of dust/sand storms out there at mo. I always put a letter with each package too. I tend to go to supermarket and just pick things up that i think he might like.

When is he back? xxx

Oh yes, I sent face wipes and baby wipes, all the heat and stuff plays havoc with skin so they have been very gratefully received.

I also sent out a constant stream of pro plus, multi vitamins, sunscreen, aftersun

It does get easier, in that you deal and cope with things much better and you do adjust to them being way and stuff, just takes a few weeks to get into it... it took me a month or so lol!

I too used to go round the supermarket and picked up things that he liked.
Something else that also went down well, DVD's, pc games (my oh has been based @ Bastion) CD's that I made and DVD's that I made.... (all our pics as a slideshow set to music)

I was thinking about DVDs actually, my OH took his laptop but i'm not sure whether it has to be used for work or not! Pic CDs are a good idea too. It is quite exciting thinking about what to send and stuff!

I'm sure i'll get into a routine, my weeks are normally quite busy, driving home from work is rubbish cos i'm just sat in the car on my own, and sometimes in bed my brain goes into overdrive but hey, one week down!!

hi - my oh requests socks too - but he is a chef and is on his feet all the time, so i send him e45 foot cream too as he gets cracked feet while away. photos are good but i've been saving my printer ink and sending him pics via the ebluey site. you upload it onto your letter and it gets printed other side in colour in a machine and gets sealed so no-one else sees it. i have sent some right random pics!! and the good thing about eblueys is they get them either the next day or a couple of days after you sent it..
i always put things in like homemade dvd's of the kids, chew bars and fizzy sweets, motorbike mags etc etc, but then if i go somewhere i put something in from there. went to beamish other week and sent him a horse-shoe from there.

Mine took his laptop too and he hasn't used it for work, he took it purely for entertainment.

Congrats on the one week down! thats one week closer :)

I joined a gym and go 3 times a week, this stops me thinking when I go to bed! lol, and if I do start thinking I switch to planning something or thinking of something nice to do when he's home.

I also never go anywhere without my ipod (plugs into my stereo) and whenever/wherever I drive I have it on, hearing all my fav songs and singing along to them all always keeps me happy :D

BUT having said that, if you're having a down day have one, you need to let all your emotions out :)

I've said this about seventy-five times so sorry to bore anyone but my OH loves home-made cake. Something that will last the journey like fruitcake or choc brownies - I don't think sponge would be up to it!

Do/did you find it frustrating not knowing what they're doing out there? I think that's th hardest thing! I sent a parcel on Sat but he isn't based around Bastion anymore so i think it'll take ages, he's going to be bombarded with letters and parcels when he gets back to civilisation!! xx
