Hi everyone :)
I'm kelly and i'm 22, my oh Andy is 24 and has just joined the Navy. He has joined as an aircraft engineer and he starts his basic training on 10th May and i'm absolutely dreading it!! We've been together just over a year and the longest time we've spent apart is 1 week.
My head is an absolute mess at the moment and i really don't think its hit me yet that he's going to be leaving!! I love him more than anything though and i've promised that I will support him with anything he wants to do........ however tough times may get!!
Saying this, neither of us really have any idea of what Navy life will be like and I was hoping that maybe some of you pro's could help by giving me an insight into what its is really like.

Welcome to Wags!!! :D My Hubby's in the Army, but shhh don't tell anyone i had an ex in the navy! :D So i know what its like when they deploy. Theres a few Navy wags on here, but everyone is friendly and will try to help you out as much as possible!! And you'll soon be addicted!!!

Im in the Navy so if you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask. His training is only 8 weeks and he will be able to call you, im not sure about emailing you as I was in raleigh 7 years ago.

Its sometimes difficult to talk to friends and family coz they don't know what me and andy r gonna be goin through and i think sometimes they don't really know what to say. I don't want to have to rely on them to much either...... after all its me who's chose to join this life!!
Can anyone tell me ........ when people in the navy go away, what is an average amount of time they will be away for without returning home??

this site really is a god send lets face most of our family and friends will try and understand but they never will until they have been in the same situation but we love them all for trying thou.
I once had a friend tell me see knew what I was going through because it was exactly the same for her when her boyfriend was away at uni lmao I was in total shock lol
the best person for you to talk to is hels1975 shes a navy wag hun Im sure she will answer any question you have

Welcome to the bunch, the ladies on here are a god send wen times get tough n go a long way to keep you saine.
Not too sure bout the navy n ships but like u i'l soon b learnin wen my OH a marine for 12yrs goes on ship for the nxt 2 n half yrs.
One thing tho u'l get very gud at biting ur tongue n learn never to belive any dates for deployments n returnin home.
Its hard but its so worth it, also they luk great in uniform hehe.

hiya, im new to this aswell, my ot passed out end of jan and went on his first deployment in feb, for nearly 6 months!!!! but hes getting off early, so is coming home end of june instead of august, im made up!! even tho he's gotta do summer duties instead!! im finding it really hard, doesnt help that the phones on ship hardly work, same with the internet!! he gets in touch as much as he can , but i still miss him loads :-(
does it get easier????????????

As much as it wont seem like it atm things do get better! Promise, its just something you have to get used to. There are ways to make it easier, like this website for one and lots of letters, blueys and parcels when the time comes. Hope you're ok xxx

Jenni - June isn't long off now, and will probably come round alot faster than you think! So keep your chin up!! It seems asthough we are both very much in the same boat though (no pun intended), so if u ever fancy a chat then feel free to message me. We could compare notes etc! lol! Where is your oh based?
My oh hasn't actually gone yet. He starts his basic training in 4 weeks. Infact, as i'm typing this, he is in his briefing finding out what time he leaves on 10th may.
I've sent him with a list of questions that i want him to ask!! lol! So hopefully a few questions that have been buggin me may get answered.
