View Full Version : 8 weeks to organise a wedding - HELP
Oh ladies.
I'm panicking! It's all official, I have a new job starting in September very close to camp, Andy has filled in the forms for MQ and I've told all my family and friends that I'm going to be any army wife!
The only thing is we booked the date yesterday for 15th August! How on earth do I plan a wedding in 8 weeks?! I'm going to need all your help, advice and experience to make it go smoothly.

first things first get looking for ur dress go simple hunni for ur wedding so then u ent panicking that is unless u want big and go local for ur suppliers cake and all that then its easier for u to go and cheak up on things jsut start getting thing done and if u have any kids goin hun there a good compan do boxes u can have on there table as the favors for them i can find the site if u want me to got a few sites i found when i was looking at stuff when me and my ex were together. big hugs hope it goes ok hun
Don't panic...we did it in 3 weeks!! All organising we did in three days as it was the only time that me, hubby and my parents (who live in Hong Kong) could get together! 8 weeks is AGESSSSS heehee!!
Just make a list and work your way through it and it will get done so much quicker than you expect. Any panics, you need a good big bridesmaid/maid of honour you can rely on to make phonecalls you cant etc. Or your Mum!! Try not to take it all on yourself.
GOOD LUCK and keep us updated!

P.S. Venue and legal stuff (giving your notice to marry at your local town hall) 1st things on list heehee!!
Thanks for your advice guys.
We've provisionally booked the registry office and have an appointment to given notice on teh 27th June, as that's the next time he'll be up here. Other than that I've made no arrangements whatsoever!
My lovely gorgeous always there for me best friend has offered to buy my cake as a wedding present which I thought was lovely of her so that's one less thing to worry about. I think we need to find a venue for the meal / reception afterwards.
We've agreed on about 25 for the meal, including a few kids, and rather than have a night "do" I think we'll just tell friends which pub / restaurant we'll be in and suggest that if they would like to come and have a drink they can. Hopefully that will keep costs and arrangements to a minimum.
Any advice gratefully accepted!
Thanks girlies.
Hubby was in Arizona when we were planinng ours, so I kinda dwindled from doing anything because I didnt wanna do something he didnt like and telephone calls didnt allow us enough time to sort things out propperly.
I managed to get the invites out 3 weeks b4 the wedding, and we booked the regerstry office and handed in the notice b4 he went.
Seams you've already got the regerstry office sorted hun, sort out your dress next! If youve not got it - its deffo worth having a look at www.landybridal.com I ordered my dress and got it in 4 and a half weeks (its from china) and mine was only £140 and it was just like the picture!! But in the shops and that, it will probably take between 6-8 weeks to come, so its sometihng u deffo need to sort out next, if you havnt already!
Oh my gosh, good point - I didn't realise the dress might need to be ordered, I just imagined myself walking into the shop and taking it home - doh!
Just to keep you up to date we've managed to get a venue for the meal afterwards through friends who own a pub / restaurant and because they've been generous with the discounts we can afford an evening "do" now too! It's amazing how your friends come up trumps when you need them.
So next job I guess is my dress and my daughter's dress - onto the fun stuff! ;o)

Im planning my wedding at the moment, when we set the date we had just under 9 weeks to get everything sorted. So far so good, 6 weeks tomorrow i get married! I have the wedding venue, reception venue, cars, cake, my dress & bridesmaids dresses, invitations & food all sorted. Still got flowers, decorations, a dj & accessories to do. Which i dont think is too bad to say hubby has been off working & iv had to get things moving on my own (something i think im going to have to get use to marrying a soldier. lol) If u can think of anything iv left out please feel free to let my know lol

Lucy hun dont panic! I got into mode last week & it made me quite ill. Have u got ur dress yet? If not u dont have to order it in... infact with the time scale u cant order one in. I went round 7 dress shops a couple of weeks ago for my wedding (in 6 weeks) & they have some lovely ones u can just buy off the rail. They r ex demonstration dresses, the shop will clean them up for u & do alterations at a small cost too, or go have a look in BHS at the mo they r having a sale on all their wedding stuff, i got my dress for £70 last week!! Its not a massives "princess" dress like i really wanted but it also didnt have the "princess" price tag! lol It is still a beautiful dress tho... & i never thought id be happy with anything less then a dress like jordans! lol lol I got my bridesmaids dresses for there too, i got all 3 dresses for £120!
What else do u want help & advice with hun, im happy to help :) xxx
You won't believe this but I actually bought my dress in TK Maxx today £20!! What a cheap skate I am, lol! I didn't want a big traditional dress though cos that's just not me. I've gone for a slinky little evening gown style but it's in a fab orange colour - starting quite bright at the top and fading to almost yellow at the bottom, it's very long too and "puddles" round my feet with a longer piece in the back of the skirt. It's halter neck and backless too. Not sure if my description is doing it justice but it really is fab. Couldn't believe the price tag either.
I've decided that now I've got an orange dress I'm going to go for orange, yellow and hot pink as my colours so me and my daughter will carry gerberas in those colours. I think I'll find a white bridesmaid dress for her but put a hot pink sash round it to brighten it up and the boys can have either orange or pink ties - which ever they prefer.
The reception is organised and I typed up the menus today so just need to get those round the guests this week so they can make their choices. Now I've chosen my colours I can start planning my table decorations too - I really fancy having round gold fish bowls with proper gold fish in them but not sure what I would do with the fish afterwards?!
You can probably tell I'm not going for a traditional wedding!!!
Hope your plans are going well Claire, keep me updated.
xx
