Hi all,

I'm Toni, living in London whilst my boy is in Afghanistan. He departed in May and won't be back til Christmas so I'm wishing the summer away.

Just wondered if there was anyone else in the same boat? :)

Ahh because of what he does and the lac of him. He is a qualified Dr and on last speaking to him there was only 2 Army Drs him being one. They extended his tour from 3 months to 11, but he may come back in Dec. Just waiting for RnR dates at the mo. Its unfair on him as they never give him procise dates like the majority of the guys and girls out there. However I am lucky in the fact that he also does Casivacs and means that he is back although for a short amount of time I can go and see him if he is going to be in the country long enough. He has done two so far he was back for 4 days, but was during the week and a 24 hour one. I never know when he is doing them exactly just that he may and that I may get to see him so spend the next however long wating for the phone call and everything ready to throw into a bag just incase its a weekend and I can go go go!! lol.

I wish there was more of him as then he wouldn't be so in demand and also it would be great to talk to someone else in a similar situation as his job is not to fight, but to mend and as far as what the forces are and arn't allowed to make them do, seem to not affect him.

Emma, you poor thing! Thats insane him being away like that!!! I cant believe that they are so shortstaffed with Doctors... well i can seeing as the army are short on everything, but still!!! What happens when he finally comes back from tour, are there actually other Doctors who will go and replace him?! No offence to your bloke in any way because im sure he is doing an amazing job out there, but it makes you wonder about all the other guys out there who need fixing back up, whether they are all getting the care they need, and in time!

Do you know what hun I have aposolutly no idea, I know there are other ones but no idea how many. I do know that the other forces have them two just dont know how many there are and there will be NHS dr as well :) For all I know there maybe more sent out since we last spoke. They all get fantastic treatment the hospital is amazing, from what I have seen on utube and the documentry they did a few months back.

Yea now i think about it i remember watching that documentary, or at least something about our hospitals over there... did look pretty good.
So how often do you get to speak to him...? and what are those Casivac things? That must be insane being with someone who is literally away for a year!!!

God its been ages since I have spoken to him and I dont really want to scare the newbies but its been very little contact for the last few months. a Casivac is a Casulty evacuation its when they bring the injured home so if there is someone who needs constant care he will go as well. hmmmm being with someone who is away a lot of the year - yeah i have my tough days / weeks, but the girls help me and I just remember he loves me and this is only a few months in the grand scheme of things.... Tust me I struggle like the rest of you do when your OH are away but chin up (Elly that ones for you) and just get on with it knowing that he will be home before I know it :D

Thanks for all the replies ladies! My OH is in intelligence and working with the RAF Regiment. Managed a 30 min phone call today which was the first in far too long. This is his second deployment since we've been together but it just seems a lot harder this time round, the lack of communication is tough.

Keeping busy and looking forward to a spa trip in August though! :D
