how has anyone managed to save up to get married

me and my OH decided when we first got engaged that we want to do this properly as we only intend on getting married once in our lives (obviously) and he wants to give me everything. only thing is after 6 months of tryin to save its not happening very quick. we have a money tin that cannot be opened (only with a tin opener once its full and ready to be paid into the bank) but i just wondered if anyone had and little ways of saving that came in handy

Hey - I have one of thoses money boxes that cant be open unless you smash it open, for my daughter they are a fab idea :)

Im with Lloyds and for every amount I spend on my debit card they round the figure up to a pound and put the lft over amount in my savings account its only a couple of £ here and there but it soon adds up.

When i am tying to save i look at what i am buying as in food shopping and go for alternative cheaper options and when I go out I take out what I need and leave my bank card at home :D

Go luck hun xx

i like what your bank do that sounds good. think i may have to look into that! its a way of saving and not realising, would be a nice suprise if i just checked it every 6 months or so to see the money building up.

I'm quite a good saver but OH is rubbish - I've made him set up direct debits to our joint current account and joint savings account which go out the day he gets paid so he doesn't miss it. If he didn't do that he would spend it all.

Also we have a thing that everytime we get a £2 coin as change we're not allowed to spend it and put it in a money jar - it really builds up as when we went to New York in May we had almost £300 in spending money from the £2 coins.

Good luck with your saving.

We both have an ISA account which is another good way to save. Have so much go out of our account each month. That way you cant touch it xxx

Me and fella did the calculations last night and if we squeeze our wages for the next 6 months we might just make it but something always comes up. his turbo went on his car which cost £900 and yep that came out the wedding fund. my cars MOT is due this month and i am dredding it. everytime we think we are getting there something comes up and we have to dip into the wedding fund. I just dont want to have to go begging to the bank a few weeks before so we can apy everyone we need to! x

thats what our house is like. my OH has a BMW and when it goes to the garage it ends up costin us big time i mean there has been times when its gone in and cost thousands, bloody stupid thing - theres a heap of metal on my drive worth 10 thousand pound, where is the sense in that?! i refuse to touch the wedding fund though so it just means everything gets aid out of it before money actually goes into it so in a way yeah it comes out the wedding fund.

My MOT is due this month too, fingers crossed for both of us.

oh has left his bank card with me while he is over in afghan so i have paid off deposits and we are just letting it save up each month and are not touching anything. he worked it out and when he comes home we will have enough to pay it all off.
i send him all the stuff he needs out there and top his phone up.so he said he doesnt need his bank card out there as he wont be spending it and if anything he knows his details from scratch lol we did spend a lot on RnR but we are still ok, we still have enough to pay it off.

I spoke to my oh on the phone tonight and although we are not engaged or anything we are going to set up a joint account and pay money into as savings for our future. Also that bank card sounds quite good. I may just transfer and do that.

What is the account called that does the rounding up and saving. I am really interested
