hiya hun welcome to wags, ive sort of been through that i met oh was joining the army fell pregnant then had to stop but would really love to join but know i cant. you can chose where you are based and what regement you join. when i was going through all the tests and where my training was i was goig to to be based with oh. getting married might be an issue i think there is a thing in the army where officers aren't supose to marry any one who has a lower rank than themselves.
starting a family wont be an issue as you are entitled to maturnity leave but best once you have worked for a year.
. what are you thinking of doing in teh army ?

Hiya

Thanks for your reply! Oh I didnt know about the marrage thing! Ill look into that!

I am looking to do something in the medical corps or veterinary (my passion is horses) however I was meant to be starting Uni this September but had to turn it down as we wouldn’t be able to afford it due to my OH taking a pay cut to do his officer training at RMA Sandhurst.

Tough times, I just want to get out the office and it seems like the army is the only way!

Where abouts are you based! Your OH is on tour that must be the hardest thing ever!

Thanks Again!

Its ok I wanted to be a combat medical techncian, for me the army were the only way i'd have a decent job doing something i was going to enjoy and gain something out of it. I did schooling overseas so they wont except my qualificatins over here, but we have baby now and he's more important and then secreatly oh didnt want me to join. Have you looked at maybe doing a nrses degree you spend 3 years in uni then you do 4 years service?
I'm up in scotland but will be moving to aldershot when oh comes back.
Its been tough but we've got there.
Have you looked maybe at the raf ?

When I met my oh I was already going through the process of trying to get into Sandhurst. I went all the way through to the AOSB, but I failed it.

I have decided that i'm not going to take my second attempt at the board as since oh has been on tour I think one of us in the army is enough, and also he is a Pte. so could be problematic with marriage. Officers are allowed to marry lower ranks however it is frowned upon, and more so in some regiments.

I also managed to coax it our of oh that he was kinda glad i'd decided not to try again.

It's still something that kind of excites me when I think about it, but it's just day dreaming really. I would never actually do it again.

My husbands first wife was also in the army and of higher rank to him......when they split up and divorced it had a detrimental affect on my husbands career for a while.

Things must have changed cos when my my husband was married to his first wife......he was posted to Germany & she was posted to UK.
