View Full Version : some general questions about married life
Hi girlies,
I'm new to the forum, I just wanted to ask some questions about getting hitched to a fella who is in the army.
My boyfriend is based at Catterick on week 8 of his basic training. We are getting married on february the 27th and then I presume I will be moving with him to where-ever he is based.
Thing is, he hasnt told me much about what will happen after the wedding. Is there a waiting list for army accomodation? Will he get time off so we are able to have a honeymoon?
If you need to know any more details, just ask!
Thanks

Hello welcome to wags, Im married but dont have a M/Q so im sure some of the other ladies will help you with this but you normally get given an address a couple of weeks before you get married, as for the honeymoon he will have to check with his unit once he is posted etc cause it will all depend on what they have on etc! We were able to have 2weeks honeymoon but i know girls that have got married and not been able to have their honeymoon because their hubbi has been sent on tour etc
Again you will just have to wait until you know where he is going to be posted and take it from there xxx
Once you know where he is posted then you can apply for a MQ because you need a posting order to do this. You can apply for a MQ three months before you get married. I think some people apply before but nothing is done until the three month point.
Honeymoons would depend on commitments with the Army but once he knows where he is posted normally they will write a letter to his CO just telling them a little about themselves and what there plans are. So he needs to put in leave in so your wedding can take place.
Oh forgot to say you can move in two weeks before your wedding too then once your married the clerks will want to see your Marriage certificate
Thanks for your replies :)
Ok, so my b/f is really bad with sorting things out. He mentioned a welfare office, is it possible I could get the number and sort things out myself? Also, how do I apply for the M/Q? Does the OH have to sort this out?

Hey I am due to get maried 27th March and I have spoken to my oh's welfare people in Germany. He is currently in Falklands so cant sort it out but he too is generally really bad at this sort of thing.
We have been told go get the 1132's filled out and sent back asap. What else you need help with? (not that I know much lol)

I need help with everything unfortunatly :S what are the 1132's? is this a form that I need to request? Im sorry to be a pain, but my wedding is in less that 5 months time and I dont even know where I will be living! All help is very much appreciated :)
xx
An 1132 is the housing form you need to fill into apply. you can google it and you will find it, just print it off and fill it in.
Unfortunatley i think i read your OH is in training, you can't really apply for the MQs until you know his posting after training. Once this has come through on JPA you can apply for an MQ in that area. Until then its sort of stabbing in the dark! xx

Yeah hes only on week 8. Do you think i should fill in the 1132 and send it off or wait untill he passes out?
xx
You can fill it out in prep, but until you know where he's posted you can't finish it, as you need the posting ref number and then you get 3 choices of areas to apply for, so you need to know where your going xx
I didnt know they were online. My oh is having problems getting hold of them in the Falklands. I have looked online but I have found 2 can anyone help in which of the following they are please.
http://www.esg.bfgnet.de/UKJSU%20SHAPE/documents/MOD1132revised31Mar08.doc
http://www.defence-estates.mod.uk/sfa/formsPublications/MOD_Form_1132.doc
I count myself lucky that my oh is quite good with his admin as when your new to all this its all so confusing I'm not looking forward to it being my turn lol :D
Just a thought, there is a member on here called Old Army Wife, it might be a good idea to PM her also with any questions as I'm sure be only to happy to help.
Good luck girls :D xx

Firstly, welcome to Wags... this site is an absolute God send and should help you loads over the coming months!
Secondly, I think I should be able to help you with some of this... My OH passed out of ITC Catterick about a month ago, we got married last week! His posting is Cyprus where he will be based for 2 years - I'm going to be joining him there in our MQ's on the 24th October (he flew out on the 3rd).
I have spoken to the Welfare Officer at Catterick (let me know if you need his telephone number as he should be able to talk you through everything if you need more info).
To be honest we had a bit of a nightmare getting everything sorted out as OH spoke to some officer who was supposed to put in the application for our MQ's in Cyprus etc - but the guy never did it... so it ended up that we had to submit an application really late in comparison to when they would like to have it. The Welfare Officer told me that my OH should have informed them at week 14 of his intention to marry and have a dependant accompany him on his posting! As it happened we had done that but he was never told grrrrrr.
Anyways, even with all the last minute rushing, we still managed to get our MQ's sorted for the week after OH arrived in Cyprus. He flew out on the 3rd and he gets the keys to the house on the 12th - so not too bad really... the main reason for the dlay in getting me over there is to do with paper work... you have to have a medical and vacsinations etc - all this paper work has to be filled in and then sent through to London! At which point they send out your travel doc's. I'm booked in the doc's this week to get all this done hense the delay in getting over there (I didn't get the paperwork though til today)!
I think if your OH tells the Welfare Officer at week 14 then all of the paperwork would be completed in time for the posting, so thoretically your MQ's would be ready and waiting on the date when your OH reports for duty - and you should be able to go straight with him instead of following later like I am doing.
Hope all that makes sense... give me a shout if you need any more info or the telephone number for the Welfare Officer!
xx
