Ok me and oh are getting married 21st August 2010.

We have booked a reception venue, however I am now realising all the little extra costs and bits that this venue has! For a start the sit down meal is £40 a head. But you have to have an evening buffet for the amount of guests coming in the evening, as well as the guests already there (£20 a head).

I just wanted a buffet for after the speeches but not a sit down meal. But i'm doubting that they will allow that.

Also everything at this place is vastly over priced!

Well I need to talk to oh but i'm thinking that even if it means loosing out £750 deposit on the place, it might save us money in the long run to have it somewhere more local that would be alot cheaper.

See we are also looking to buy a house next year....

Arrgggg! Wish I could talk to him :(

urm hun thats a toughy. i'd have a hunt around if i was you. do you have a budget??? if you do then make sure you stick to it. that was my problem, i went over and had to get a credit card to pay the rest off and now its a pain having to try and pay that off.

the thing is with these sorts of venues, they massively over charge the food. ours wasnt too bad, it was £28 per head for the sit down and £10 for the buffet, but you can get it cheaper than that. if you dont want a sit down meal they shouldnt make you.

have a hunt around and find out all the costs for eveything including food drink etc. some places charge for using their crockery and cuterly etc so watch out for that too. might be best if you find somewhere where you can get your own caterers for, its works out cheaper and you can do it the way you want to.

hope u manage to sort it out hunni. its stressful but you'll get there xxx

My advice would be to call the venue and ask if they do any other packages, like just a buffet? Explain that you are on a tight budget and see what they can offer, you can ask them to quote for everything you need so there are no hidden costs. It might be easier to arrange a meeting with their wedding planner so you can discuss it face to face maybe take a friend or your mum for some moral support?

In the end it is in their interest to keep your business, they are the ones that miss out if you go elsewhere!

Good luck
