For all of you who are applying, or are at uni or even if you have recently graduated..
Any tips on Personal statements? I'm having a tough time with it, any advice would be appreciated :) I'm applying to do midwifery, and i hear its a really competitive course.

hey!
i think the key is just to write some good notes to start off with, i tried writing mine straight off, and it was a disaster! and get as many people to read it as possible =)

I have just started Uni doing my Adult nursing. With personal statements you need to be honest and positive. Put in your strengths and bits you need to work on but put a positive spin on it. Use key words like team work, open, honest, hardworking. Mention your hobbies and a bit about your background. It doesnt need to be too heavy. I got told short sharp and to the point. Hope that helps xx
Hey hun
I did midwifery, although now doing another course I hope I can be of help. I've had a bit of a search on my laptop to see if I can find my old personal statement but can only find my new one - so apologies for that.
Midwifery is a very intense course, so an attitude to hard work and team work is essential. I would say how you are interested in women's health and how midwifery is a key issue within this area. A lot of people consider midwifery to be about babies, but a desire to care for the woman and her family is what they want to hear. Midwife actually means 'with - woman' so you can see that the woman and her well being is essential to any midwive's practice.
Talk about any care experience you may have, and try and get your strong desire and passion for the subject across. Midwives have to be dedicated and you need to show this.
I hope this helps in anyway. Sorry if it comes across as a bit bosy, I just re read what I have written, but as you have said Midwifery is a very hard course to get on and you need to prove you mean business! Good luck! :)
Thank you for your replies they will help me out thank you :)
