View Full Version : Whats you budget?

Princess
,
Ok so ours is £5,000 but i'm trying to keep it well under that.

So far i've managed to save on the venue by booking both the Ceremony & Reception using their 2 platinum suites so i got it for £500 for the 2 rooms
My Dad has a sports car so his friend is going to be chauffer and collect the lads in that saving us on one lot of transport.
I've found unique but fab favours for £22.99 for 100 crystal sugar swizzle sticks
I researched google and managed to find all my accessories (flowergirl basket, guest book & pen, garter set, ring pillow & cake knife) all matching for £124
Local college is doing my flowers (My bouquet, 10 buttonholes, 2 cosarges & a wand, white roses all real) for £136.50
Local kids clothes shop www.kidstyle.co.uk i have managed to get my son and my newphews suits from there for £33.98! instead of paying a fortune from a Bridal shop
Ordering my 2 older Bridesmaids dresses from www.lightinthebox.com $119.20 in total including P&P (i think its about £70 GBP)
Our venue does a corkage scheme so i have found sparkling white whine (taste tested it first lol) for £2.04 1.5L magnum sized bottles so buying 15 of them and then we pay £5 corkage per bottle saving us approx £300 against the venues prices!
My dress is the one thing i wouldn't comprimise on price but it was so good at £360! and because i bought that, my veil, tiara & bolero from her she gave me £30 off my bolero.
Local Music School is providing us with a Violinist for our Ceremony for a small fee of about £120!
We saved £130 by providing our own DJ for the Reception
Made the table plan myself and the place cards, a family friend who is a professional printer has made our invites for nothing
All the lads in our Bridal Party are wearing/providing their own black suits.
Rings we are getting from www.thejewellerycatalouge.co.uk (could be .com) £124.90 for them both, however we have said in 5 years we will renew our vows and buy eachother an eternity ring the way we look at it the ring is a symbol/token of our love not the price tag :) but we are having them engraved Mrs **** on his & Mr **** on mine (i wanted 'property of' but OH said NO! lol)
Cake we are buying 3 tiers from either Asda or Tesco and stacking them then adding a nice black ribbon & a diamante buckle (like in my picture on my other thread)
My shoes i'm having a go at covering in the Swarovski crystals myself, £66 altogether for the shoes, crystals & hot fix glue gun

All our little savings leaves a bit extra for my Horse Drawn Carriage, the Registrars fee, Photographer & any other bits along the way.

I can't wait now, i'm so bad that i carry a pink notebook, my diary & my 'Wedding Notes' book (that i got free in a magazine) they all go everywhere with me and then i take my mini calculator too oh and a black pen and a red pen haha

Wow! I can't believe how well your doing at finding bargains! We originally said a budget of £7500 but that does not include my dress (my mum is paying for that and i'm having it specially made) and parents contributions. Everything included we have a round about budget of £10,000.
Although I've managed to pick up bargains here and there, we've still managed to go over budget! Oooooops!
I forgot to include things like hair and makeup and also decided last minute that I wanted 2 more bridesmaids (bringing the total to 6), as I knew i would regret it later down the line if I didn't have 2 of my best friends as bridesmaids.
We thought we would possibly be able to save money if i made all the invitations and place cards myself, but after I bought all the little nik naks to go on them, it actually would have worked out cheaper to buy them! lol! Oh well, it was fun making them!

,
It will all be worth it hun!! :). I think if we had stuck with our original date in December 2011 we would have went well over lol i wouldn't have bothered looking for the bargains or cutting any costs here and there haha (thats a secret though OH don't need to know hehe)

I think its made it a bit harder having to search cos we now only have 5 months left and i'm still not sorted with a Photograher, haven't yet given our intent to marry (although mine is booked at my office for the 12th March -my mam and dads wedding anniversary haha just realised although they divorced now ) and OHs is booked for the 13th at his office problem is ill have to change his cos he may not be back in time  stupid army!!

5 months is plenty of time to still get things like photographers sorted so don't panic!
What day do you get married on? We're getting married on a Friday so found that most people/places were available even at short notice coz its not the most popular day to get married on.

rak-attack
,
i need some tips!!! our budget is about 12 grand but i dont really want to spend it all, im determined to get the costs below that. the problem is the amount of family my oh has - its huge, and at 30 quid a head for the wedding breakfast like half of our money is going on feeding everyone!!!!!

Thumper
,
o-k why cudnt mine by like a 5k budget and im getting married on a flipping Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and not getting married till 4pm!!!!!!!!!!!!! im being ripped off here

i shud be cheap................. cheaper...............

my dress was 1,800 and its not even fitted yet... and no tiara or veil yet either.

xxlottexx
,
well we wana do it quick and i do understand that some ppl want a massive weddin with all the trimmings, im just not one of those ppl and the less fuss the better, small weddin, massive dress lol!!

i have saved loads shoppin online and im blessed the future MIL wants 2 b so helpful with all the arrangements :) im not a traditional sort of girl neway so lets just say that when u all see the pics u will know why lol!!

i just wana marry him n b with him, yes weddings r important but to me its just 1 day , no matter how i marry him i know im marryin him for life, so id rather treasure that idea instead of spendin loadsa cash on the wedding , id marry him wearing nothin but a bin liner and carryin a bunch of daffodils lol!!! i just want him not all the cuffuffle that goes with it all..... xxxxx

cheeky.xx
,
Ours will be 10 MAX and will bedoing my very best to keep it between 5-8.

We're not having a wedding breakfast as I REFUSE to get bogged down in everyone's menu choices etc however I do still want a sit down thing so I'm thinking either:

- High tea (finger sandwiches and scones) with a job lot of Fish & Chips in the evening

- BBQ- people go up table by table and choose what they want with Bacon/Sausage sandwiches around 9/10pm

- Hog Roast, selection of desserts and then no idea for the evening.

I don't want a 3 course sit down meal or evening buffet as it's just not something I'd like for myself to plan so this is what I've toyed with so far x x

kelly100
,
the problem is the amount of family my oh has - its huge, and at 30 quid a head for the wedding breakfast like half of our money is going on feeding everyone!!!!!

I had that problem too hun - We've spent £4000 on the reception alone!! We've spent £10000 altogether, although it would have been about £1000 less if we didnt have such a big bridal party (6 bridesmaids, best man, 7 ushers and 3 page boys!).

I found the more I looked around, the better the prices I got. Like I was quoted £100 per suit hire but told them i'd been quoted £70 elsewhere, so they matched that price!

My advice would be to never go for the 1st thing you see - always shop about!
xxxxxxx

Thumper
,
awwww lotte thats so romantic.........

i said to OH we cud just do it quiet but he said claire ud regret not having all the cuffuffle......

hes so right.................................:D

lol...

xxlottexx
,
n i would of saved a further 315 quid if i had it in the registry office but ohhh no every1 wants a church weddin for us, includin him!!

seriously its easy i cud do this as a job lol but tbh im not even excited lol im just pleased at how much money i can save lol!!

so with the 400 quid change out of the budget were goin 2 get a hotel for the night ;) and then we will have a honeymoon some other time cos i want as much cash as possible for the move 2 germany lol!!

btw my dads payin for the wedding although i have sed that me n OH will pay for the church, n dads rather impressed that im not as expensive as he thought!! maybe thats why hes yet again paid for me to have my hair cut!! lol xxxxx

ok clearly i need to shop around!
Our budget is 30k coz i have a huge family and we have to get OH's family over from South Africa. Church is costing £700, Venue including wedding breakfast, buffet in evening, reception drinks, wine on tables, DJ, toastmaster, bridal suite and chocolate fountain is costing a whacking 11k!
Got a year and a half to save though so its not so bad.
Thats lovely though Lotte, i personally would quite like to go to vegas just me and OH and do it but i can't follow in Katie Price's footsteps.

I don't actually know why I'm lurking around the wedding forum, but I just had to comment on this thread. Wowweee!! You sound like a woman after my own heart - this is exactley how I intend to do my wedding! Congrats on managing all that on your own, what a woman :D

priscilla
,
Wow you girls are all so organised! :)

I don't really have a budget - we were going to just have a very low-key affair as it was all going to be done in such a rush but my totally legendary parents insisted on putting on a proper big day so they're paying for pretty much everything! Not that I'm taking the p*ss though - we're only having 80 guests (which is a logistical nightmare given OH's huuuuuuge family!) and a nice informal BBQ rather than a sit down dinner. Plus my maid of honour is one of those terribly useful people who knows absolutely everyone so she's getting me a cheap band, flowers and photographer ;)

Every day I think of something else I need to organise though - I fall asleep with table plans in my head!
