Now looking for OH lol, and was just wondering what metal yours OHs have chosen? Obviously they're in quite physical jobs so the rings will be getting battered and filthy etc so it needs to be quite hard-wearing! Unfortunately I don't think we can afford platinum lol. I've read about Titanium which looks good, altho it's quite cheap so I hope they look nice in the flesh! What metals did ur guys choose, or am I looking into it too much lol? (oh I should say he def wants silver - as in colour not metal-)

OH is having a platinum D-shaped band and i have to agree, it is very expensive. His ring alone cost us £899!! He's only chosen a platinum ring to match my rings lol!!

If you're looking for something durable but still easy on the eye, i'd recommend looking at palladium. It belongs to the same metal group as platinum but is a greyish/silverish colour as opposed to the platinum white colour. It's on average half the price of platinum and looks just as nice. I think Ernest Jones or H Samuel's do a palladium collection, so it's worth a look.

I'm not overly fussed on titanium, it may be the most dense metal of the lot but it's prone to dulling after a few months especially if it comes into contact with oils and corrosive liquids such as cleaning fluids used on rifles etc.

Me and OH both picked 9ct white gold. Cheap and looks nice. :)

We went for titanium with my OH. Firstly he didnt even want a ring, so it took me a while to convince him even to look, and he refused to pay a bomb for it! But we ended up choosing titanium in the end as its hard wearing but also very light, and relatively cheap as well. We went for a brushed looked one (or whatever you call it), rather than shiny/polished, so it hasnt had the problem of fading or going dull after time.

Richie and I both have 18-22karat gold wedding rings. The mix was done by the goldsmith who made the rings to be as pure as possible without being too soft for jewellry.

Richie always wears gloves when he is working so it doesn't get damaged and we went for Gold as Platinum, white gold etc just look cold on my skin tone. In addition a necklace my Grandparent's gave me for my 18th was made melted into the rings as it got damaged.

I really would go for what you want rather than what other people think as at the end of the day it is you and your DH2B that have to wear them day in and day out.

My hubby went for palladium and was half the cost of my platinum band and I must say over a year and a half down the line looks in much better nick than mine Lol x x

That's a good idea having two.

However, there is no way I would ever trust OH with platinum haha even if we could afford it- he said himself earlier when I asked him how much he wanted to spend on his ring "not too much coz I'm going to lose it" haha thanks....! But na it's true- he probs would. I think we will set a budget and look at what metals we can afford for that and see which looks best....

I love those rings, think they are gorjus :D.

I obviously have not got an engagement or wedding ring yet so not sure I can give any real advice. I think White gold or yellow gold, 9ct is a good option as not most expensive, not cheap and not too soft. Good luck searching and can't wait to see what you both choose :) x

Mine is 18ct White Gold, to match engagment ring and OH went for Palladium as you don't need to get it replated like the white gold, and not too expensive like the platinum!

I assume mine will be yellow gold as I really don't think any of the other metals suit, they just don't look right. Platinum I really do think is ridiculously overpriced and I have expensive taste lol. OH I presume will have whatever metal I have so we match xx

Thanks for ur comments girls. I don't think OH wants to spend too much atm so i think what I will suggest is a titanium one for this year- they're really cheap, and then maybe next year if we have a bit more money I will buy him a palladium one for our anniversary or sumit coz I like the sound/look of those xxx

Think OH is going for Platinum and Im hoping we will get a good deal from my client in the jewellery quarter if not then we may have to rethink. I don't think OH is actually bothered what he has to be honest! x

Ours are platinum, very plain and simple and I think they look lush :)

OH still owes me an engagement ring though as I'm wearing my granny's ring at the moment but I don't really mind cos I love it anyway.

Hey hun

My and OH have both got matching Titanium rings specifically because its hard wearing and although yeah they were cheaper than you would pay for white gold and platinum its not about the price at the end of the day its a symbol of your commitment to eachother so it could be a rubber band and still have the same meaning the price tag won't make a difference and doesn't prove anything. Mine has a diamond in it and OHs has 2 platinum bands etched round it.

My engagement ring is white gold and tbh i personally think its crap cos they need dipping to keep their colour every now and then

Hope you find what your lookin for soon xx

Thanks hun- yeah it's about what they stand for not what they're made from :) Plus it's not like you can really tell what the metal is or what you've paid for them when they're being worn neways lol. I think we will try a few different ones on and see what looks good for what we can afford xxx

:-) I've been asked by a couple of people if mine is platinum, only a jeweller would be able to tell just by looking and yup its all about what they stand for, and personally if i was walking round with a stupidly expensive ring on i would be constantly worrying in case it got lost or stolen more than i do now. All jewellery gets scuffed and theres nothing you can do to help that apart from not wear it lol. We got brushed ones and they look a lil bit more expensive than they actually were xx

Yeah this is true- plus if I'm anything like my mum I will want to change my wedding ring every two years haha (not husbands btw! just the ring lol) xxx

1 thing im worried about with white gold is that it fades and goes crappy, can you get anything to keep them looking shiny ?? x x x x x

Someone mentioned something about getting them dipped? I've got a white gold ring though from my 18th so nearly 5 years ago now and that still looks good, so I don't think it fades too quickly xxx

Similar sort of Q but just wondering if your OHs have/are going to have polished metal look or the brushed look?

Weve just been and looked at some rings this morning. I am having polished so matches engagement ring and OH tried same as me on but just double the width. I didn't think til after we'd got home about trying brushed effect for him. Just thought it might be more practical for work as scratches etc won't show up so easily.

I'm not sure- I quite like the brushed ones tho, less shiny which I think my OH would prefer. I guess we will see which he prefers when he's tried a few on, but if he liked brushed that would be cool- I'm not fussed about our rings matching xxx
