View Full Version : Wedding gift lists?

Just wondering if anyone else has done one of these? I've always thought it was a bit tacky and looked greedy...don't know why, but I've been talking to some family members and it seems a lot people would prefer to have an idea as to what to get so like the idea of a list. I have to admit as a guest it would be much easier just to log in and order something I know they actually want- so long as there are a range of prices on there.

I think it'll be especially useful as we are kinda a traditional newlywed couple in that we will be setting up a home next year (hopefully.....) so gifts such as toasters would actually be useful to us (coz of course today most married couples already live together and have most things!) So would stop 'duplicates'. Although, we would still be happy with vouchers.

I just don't know where to pick? I love Next and Debenhams but I'm thinking Argos is a much cheaper, handier option for the basics and maybe having a second list for pretty things like cushions and pictures lol.....

I won't be writing anything in the invites to tell people where to go for gifts, all I will need to do is tell my Mum, James' Mum and my Chief bridesmaid and they will cover all the bases- my family, his family and our friends haha.

Would you consider a wedding list? xxx

I had a wedding list last time round and everyone I know has had one too. I went with John Lewis - they do price matching and you can give anything back you decide you don't want or don't get a complete set for and can spend the equivalent amount on anything or you can make sets up yourself at a discount and people can just buy gift vouchers if they prefer. They give you cards to include with the invites etc. I much prefer gift lists myself as it takes the guess work out of it and you know you're getting the couple something they want. Plus it's a great way to get your house sorted!

So in my opinion, go for it!

heya hun, were deffo gonna be having one. ive already had quite a few people asking where ours is and the wedding isnt until next august!

we are going to go with john lewis, as there is a massive range is prices for goods - v. cheap to quite dear depending on how much people would like to spend. also you can request vouchers, which is what we are doing as for at least 6 months we wont have anywhere to store gifts so vouchers are fab.

one final tip is that i personally wouldnt go with debenhams, as they do substitutions if they run out of a gift that someone has bought, and it will either be something cheaper or something similar priced but not necessarily on your list. i dont like that so would prefer john lewis who offer an alternative gift to the purchaser instead xxxxxxxx

I have bought 2 of my friends gifts from a John Lewis gift list and it is so easy and I would say I much prefer to do that than panic about buying something... buying the same as someone else... buying something you would completely hate.... Its not rude to make a list as personally buying someone a present, i would much rather buy them something they wanted.... :)

We're not having a wedding list, only because we set up home over 18 months ago so have everything we need.

We've just asked for a new car from my parents and OH's parents are paying for the honeymoon (when we get round to booking it!!) as for the rest of the guests, we've told them vouchers or money will be brilliant because they'll come in handy somewhere.

I'd definately recommend doing a wedding list if you are setting up home once you're married because it will save a lot of money and you'll have presents that will be very much needed and wanted!!

We won't be having one as we set up home Dec 07 :) so we are hoping to do something where people contribute to either helping to pay off the honeymoon or vouchers for Next if on a small budget.

As a guest I would prefer people point me in the direction of what they'd like than try and guess so I think they're a great idea! xx

We had one at Argos and it was brilliant :) The beauty of argos is they have lots of cheap things and some nicer, more pricey things there too. We put a variety on and lots of people bought us some of the pricier things or a small bundle of the cheaper ones! xx
