Hi girls, i'm completely new to this!! My boyfriend deploys on Wednesday of next week, its our last weekend together this weekend so joining now to prepare! Im really worried and don't know how its going to be, we've not been together long but we are really close and i'm just dreading this 6months apart! I know lots of you have been through it and i'm just looking for support from people who understand best :-) Looking forward to coming on here more often to help me through :o

You've definitely come to the right place. A lot of us have been through tours and there are quite a few who are just about to experience their first tour so you're not alone.
I won't lie it's not easy but you will surprise youself how strong you are and hopefully it will make your relationship stronger too.

My OH is due to deploy over the weekend and its our first tour :( All the girls are really supportive and wil help as much as they can. We can countdown together as they will be out the same time :) x x x x x x
Hey hun, welcome to wags!!! You've definitely come to the right place for support. The girls on here are fab, really friendly and really supportive so don't be shy about asking about anything, having a moan / cry etc. We'll all be here for you & will help you get through it. My OH is in Afghan at the moment but due home on leave in a few days. But I'll be back to give you, Zoe and all the others company on your countdowns once he goes back out 3 weeks later.
So how long have you and your OH been together?? How did you meet?

hey ya and welcome to wags :) this place is awesome for support especially at a time like this. there's quite a few ladies who's oh's are going on tour soon and plenty of us who have been through tours so any advice you need i'm sure you'll get the answers.

Thank u all so much, i really hope this helps and looking at your responses im sure it will. i think its just cos ive never done anything like it before so its all just a bit bizarre, and none of my friends really understand. Ive been with him for about 5 months now and we are so close, when i look at how we are and how long we've been together i frighten myself haha but i love it. We met at school years ago (im 21) but didnt really speak much then "re-met" in a bar last christmas. we spoke for months before seeing eachother again and its all just been so lovely. He is a para and based in colchester and im a student in newcastle so we dont see eachother much but are never out of touch. i just hope the time goes fast! i'm reassured that some of you will be going thru it with me and cant wait to help eachother out :-) i'm sure we will all be fine and they'll all come back safe :) xx
He'll come back and then because you've missed each other so much it'll be all the more special. I've only been with my OH for 6 months. I've known him years though, but I'm already getting married to him and 3 months pregnant. lol Squaddies! You really do have to watch um lol.
Awww you'll do great. If your used to spending time apart it makes it easier when they go away for longer. I find it does. Any bad days you have though, this site is great for a release!

i was in a simular situation to you too when my OH did his tour sept 08-april 09.
we had only been together for 6 months & i was very scared of the unknown ect.....but it made us loads stronger as a couple & 2 years later weve bought our own home together, having our 1st child together in 8 weeks & planning our wedding in 2012 :D
we will all support you thro your ups & downs ;)

He's asked for february i think, we agreed that if we get 4months out of the way then when he has his r n r its not long til hes home. and i have exams in december etc so thought i probably couldn't deal with it all happening at once. i think we will be ok i just want him to be safe. planning on sending loads of letter and parcels so will be looking for advice on that soon too!! xxxx
