My oh has suggested we start taking down ideas for the wedding this weekend when he's back, ah im so excited!

But little does he know Ive already got ideas lmao :p I think Ive found my dream venue!

How long would you girls say it takes to properly 'plan' a wedding? i want to be organized and for everything to be perfect!! Also did you have a budget? (sorry to be nosy, you don't have to answer) just want to get ideas :)

Any advice etc is appreciated :D

ooooh how exciting. urm it all depends on what sort of wedding u want really. we kinda had a budget but went a bit over so i would advise that if you have a limit then defo try to stick to it.

weddings can be planned in a matter of weeks, or months. i'd reccomend at least 6 months to plan coz sometimes things get booked up quite quickly and also depending on where you get ur dress from i had to order mine at least 3 months in advance.

best of luck though, i loved planning my wedding x

Oooooh exciting stuff!

From engagement to marriage it was 6 months for us. Definately have a budget in mind as it's soooooo easy to overspend. Best to decide on what you want (from the venue and all the way down to invites, favours and entertainment) and allocate how much you want to spend on each and try and stick. Also consider the out of wedding season and weekdays instead of weekends as your budget will go so much further!

To give you an idea of what our budget was.......we had a budget of 5K for our wedding (honeymoon was separate) and for that we had our ceremony and wedding reception in a country hotel/barn for 90 people. Our budget was spent on the following: dress/suits and accessories, flowers, invites, favours, cake, welcome drinks, toast drinks, a 4 course meal with between 2 & 4 choices for each course (guests got to choose on the day from a menu), disco, casino tables (eve entertainment), prizes for casino winners (eg ipod & digital photo frame), wedding car, evening buffet, hotel rooms for bridesmaid and bestman (the honeymoon suite for us was included in the cost free of charge)…….and we also put £500 behind the bar on the day for wine during the day reception (we put a wine list on the tables for guests to choose from……they could order what and and as much as they liked) and the budget lasted through to the end of the night as my hubby and his bestman were having to drinking triples from the bar to use it up. Lol

Hey hun,
I have an excel spreadsheet with everything in but couldn't get it to attach so have copy and pasted the content. Hopefully this will give you an idea.

I also have another tab in the worksheet with same headings but only putting in our spend to date.

It's very handy and its helping us sort of stick to budget too!

Thanks girls, we don't have a budget yet.. Will prob discuss that at the weekend. But Ive just set my heart on a venue and WANT it now Its beautiful lol. I'm just abit confused in whats actually included in it, like food etc or just the venue, suppose I'll have to ring them up and have a chat.

I have the day off today and tomorrow so been distracted by wedding stuff haha, i may have to stop otherwise it will all be planned and oh will have no say lol :o

I like the idea of doing a spreadsheet, very clever idea becks :)

Here's the venue ive got my eyes on at the moment; http://www.packingtonmoor-events.co.uk/

Haha Becks an excel spreadsheet that's brilliant, I thought I was organised!!!

We'll have been planning about 7 months, it's been good having all that time, but I have had a baby in the meantime so I think it can be done much quicker than that! I would say it's good to have about 6 months just so you can book all the major things on the date you want, especially if you're having a spring/summer wedding. Things like churches, venues and photographers get booked up months even years in advance so the quicker you act on that the better, but you can leave the rest for later on which is what we pretty much did. Plus, the more time you have the more time you have to seek out bargains, ebay has been my best friend!!!

Def reccomend a budget, think about what you can afford and what you want. See if there's anything you're willing to compromise on, for me it was the cars!

Our wedding will be £6000 in all (was going to be £4-5000 to start with ) but we are from a very cheap area and are having a winter wedding so we have been very lucky!!!!

p.s. you will need to sort your dress about 3-6 months in advance if you're not going to buy off the rack, mine took about 3 months in all, but my bridesmaid dresses took nearly 5!!!!! xxx

Laura.x
,
Thanks stacey. You're getting married soon aren't you? How exciting :D

We've chose a venue i think, prices are the best esp for what you get, and we're going to see it hopefully next weekend even though we've seen it before want to have a proper look round etc :D

We've decided on August 2011, Need to contact venue etc for availability aswel hopefully they'll have some lol.

Its exciting now, seems more official :)

My wedding took about 9 months to a year. It cost about £3000, and we had a lot of help as well. Family helped with a few things. My parents got our cake and we had marks uncle doing the photos and marks mum sorted out the flowers and i wouldnt change the day. It was simple because the most amazing day of my life. I wouldnt change the day.

Laura.x
,
Sounds lovely Jen :). Sometimes simple is better! <3

I'm TRYING to book our venue, but have been trying to call them for the past 2 days with no luck of getting through, all i keep getting 'i'll get her to call you back' which of course no1 does. I'm starting to have second thoughts about this venue. Its proper stressing me out now as i want to book it and want an actual 'date' for it. :(

jennykins90
,
Oh dear... thats not fun. Try not to stress too much already. Take a deep breath and relax.

Is there anyway you can go to the venue? If not when you phone them again tell them that you will go somewhere else for you wedding if they dont phone you back! It might help.

Laura.x
,
I can't because of work, i gave them strict instructions to phone me back by 12.. which i doubt they will!

My moms going to try for me bless her, I'll try not to stress but its driving me nuts and want to know the date i want is still free.

I'll prob threaten them with that, its just i REALLY want this venue.

I've been in tears this morning  Don't know whats wrong with me lol x

jennykins90
,
Aww hunni dont cry. *big hug* Things will be fine. I know how you feel i have been there not so long ago lol.

When i had the venue booked i felt a bit more relaxed because i knew i had somewhere to get married.

Enjoy the planning and dont get too stressed about things yet.

Anytime you want to talk pm me.

hey hun, i was exactly the same with wanting to sort the date asap. Although we don't like to think they are busy with other work things and we expect us to be their priority in actual fact the time since you called them has probably flown for them if theyve been busy and they WILL get round to calling you back, don't stress about it. but i remember when i was waiting for anyone to call me back re wedding I was checking the clock every 30 seconds and it felt like it took them forever as I have to have answers to my questions like NOW! When in reality it really isn't that long to wait. I know when people leave messages for me at work the day can fly by and I haven't had chance to call them back without actually realising!
Hope they call you back soon anyhow. How's the rest of the planning going, dress yet?! xx

Laura.x
