Hey,

I'm new to this, kinda. Was dating my other half for 6 months and then all his pdt took its toll and we split. Back together again and stronger than ever.

I came on here looking for some support, as most of my mates don't understand what I'm going through. They mostly complain that I should be used to it because my dad was RAF.

Most of the guys I work with are good, but being civil servants I guess they kinda understand, but I don't really wanna go shouting my business at work.

I've only got about 8 weeks til he's off to Afghan and I'm dreading it as it's the first tour for him and the first for me as a girlfriend. So any tips on how to cope or what he's likely to want sending out would be fantastic.

Mine is off to Afghanistan in a couple of months too. What regiment is your OH in?

How to cope - keep busy (catch up with all those friends you keep meaning to meet up with; maybe take up a new fitness regime or do more of a hobby), write him lots of blueys, adopt a healthy attitude of denial as to thedangers, and come on here for a moan when it's all too much!

Parcels-wise, others will have many tips. My OH's last tour he was mostly at Kandahar where he could get most of his essentials so he only wanted me to post him home-made cakes and brownies! But if they are at an FOB or smaller base they often like to get toiletries and stuff. Things to read for the dull moments, and any reminders of home such as notes from friends/family, photos etc are always good. One thing I thought was a sweet idea was a pillowcase with your perfume on so he can go to sleep with the scent of you!

Hi hun, my OH is in Afghan too at the mo, only thing i can suggest is keep plodding on, keep busy, accept that it is hard and don't give yourself a hard time. Also try and remember it does get easier. Hope u r ok, and welcome to wags! Share all, it helps :)

Welcome to the site hun. You're in good company here and are now surrounded by people who do understand. There are plenty of us on here with our men in Afghan so you don't need to worry about being alone in this. We'll help you through this.

hey hun welcome to WAGs ..... my hubby hasnt been posted yet but my little brother was posted in afgan couple of years ago, it is hard and i know i will be going through it again sometime soon with my hubby, so you have come to the right place :) we are all in the same boat!

I now what you mean about friends to, my mates have no idea how hard it is being with someone in the forces ... its bloody hard work and emotionaly draining :) but we are here day and night x
