I am not sure how it is at the moment for phone communication, it's been a little while since my husband was in Irak. Usually mobiles are OK depending on security levels, (pre arranged times are better for both of you).

Good old fashioned mail is fine, but you can also send e-blues which is quicker, a bit like an e-mail, printed at the other end and delivered usually by the next day.

Check the British Forces Post Office web-site on http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/ for more advice.

Don't forget to send him lots of parcels it will cheer him up, get his family and yours to do the same if you can, the more the merrier! (check out Paula's link for the petition to waive off parcel postage for up to 2 Kg parcels).

My boyfriend goes to Afghanistan in March and he has been told he will get about 30mins a week on the phone and hopefully our mobiles will work to. They can write to you and you can write to them and also when they are at the base they shoulld beable to access email.

When does your boyf go?

Yeah thats right Carly you do get 30 mins per week, Also he will be able to take him mobile with him if it is pay as you go you will have to top it of for him over here. They can use the internet!!! Like Carly has said you will be able to write to each other.

Hi,
The phone calls are always good to get, we have found that the mobile tends to have little or no signal... but can text, which is good. Always good to get a message no matter how small. We have also found that our web-cam was well worth buying as he is lucky enough to be posted to somewhere we can use them. It costs to top up a card to use the internet, ut getting to see each other is amazing and well worth the pennies!!
